Reducing the infill volume is an economically viable option to minimize costs, as this shortens the printing time. However, it should be noted that this cost saving can come at the expense of structural stability.

60%-80% filling:

Fill pattern

Rectangular:

Tolerances

In 3D printing, there are various processes with different tolerances that can vary significantly depending on the geometry, material, and process. Due to shrinkage and other factors, standardization is often impossible. Support materials

In 3D printing, support materials are sometimes necessary, but new approaches can reduce or avoid their use.

Prevent overhangs:

To reduce the need for support material, it is advisable to avoid overhangs as a first step in 3D printing. Ideally, objects should be designed with an angle of approximately 45 degrees, as this minimizes the risk of overhangs.

Support material positioning:

To maintain the surface quality of the printed object, it is recommended to place support materials in less visible areas. Please let us know if support structures are necessary so that we can proceed accordingly.

Cost reduction:

The use of support materials increases both material costs and the costs of subsequently removing the support structures. This can lead to additional labor and time costs.

Pressure alignment of the component

The orientation of the component on the print bed is a crucial aspect for the quality, stability, and detail accuracy of a 3D printing project. There are certain points to consider to achieve optimal results. Here is a summary of these aspects.

What should be considered regarding the printing direction?

Layer adhesion:

The tensile strength in the Z-axis is significantly lower compared to the XY-axis due to the layered structure. This leads to weaker adhesion between the layers and increases the susceptibility to fracture. Therefore, it is important to precisely plan the load on the component in the Z-direction and inform the service provider accordingly to ensure that the Z-axis is adequately considered.

Support material:

The choice of printing direction can affect the amount of support material required. If you don't have a specific preference, it may be more cost-effective to let the service provider choose the orientation, as this can result in less support material and lower rework costs.

Surface quality:

The choice of build plate structure influences the appearance of the printed part. Different build plates transfer their specific structures to the part. Depending on the printing process, the surface structures of the Z-side can vary due to the layer thickness, and those of the XY-sides due to the nozzle diameter; this should be taken into account when designing the desired surface.

Bore and thread:

When 3D printing, it's crucial to orient holes and threads so they can be printed on the build plate. Printing holes in the XY direction can result in oval distortion, and threads can become very inaccurate, leading to print failures. For precision and accuracy, design holes and threads in the Z direction.

Printing plate:

Since the print bed is typically smaller than the Z-axis, large parts may not lie flat. Contact us to ensure the parts can be adjusted accordingly. Otherwise, printing certain parts successfully could be challenging, as only one specific orientation is possible.

3D printing with ceramics utilizes the outstanding mechanical and thermal properties of ceramics. Ceramics are characterized by high hardness, abrasion resistance, and resistance to extremely high temperatures and aggressive environments.

Properties of ceramics

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) is a chemical compound of aluminum and oxygen. It is characterized by its high hardness, temperature resistance, and chemical stability, and finds wide application in industry, for example in abrasives, ceramics, and as a catalyst support.
Zirconia (ZrO2) is also known as zirconium oxide. It has extreme hardness, high temperature resistance, and low thermal conductivity. Due to these properties, zirconium oxide is used in high-temperature applications, dental prosthetics, and solid oxide fuel cells.

Biomaterials Sustainability Recycled

In the field of 3D printing, increasing emphasis is being placed on biodegradable and compostable materials. Both old remnants and components can be recycled. On an economic level, innovations are needed to surpass conventional manufacturing methods.

Biomaterials

PLA: It is a biodegradable polymer made from renewable raw materials such as cornstarch. It belongs to the group of bio-based plastics and is characterized by its biodegradability and environmental compatibility.
PHA: A compostable material that can decompose in nature. Unlike PLA, which is primarily industrially compostable, PHA is a sustainable and biodegradable material that leaves no microplastic residue.
Recycling: These materials were recycled from filament scraps and misprints to produce new filament. Therefore, it is a sustainable material that has been given a new life.
Wood: The wood filament is made from 100% renewable resources and is biodegradable. It also emits an authentic wood scent and its appearance is strikingly similar to real wood.

Wear-resistant: These materials have a lifespan 50 times longer compared to ABS.
Metal: The aesthetics of metal are preserved, but not the stability of steel.
Stone: The look of this surface is simulated by a stone-like marbling.
Glow: The material is charged by light and glows in the dark.

Fiber-reinforced composites

Mixing plastics with fibers creates a combination that increases strength and stiffness. A further development involves incorporating continuous fibers into the component.

High-performance plastics

Carbon: For carbon-reinforced materials, various filaments are mixed with carbon. The carbon content varies between 5 and 30% depending on the manufacturer, for increased strength.
Fiberglass: Similar to carbon fiber, fiberglass-reinforced materials use a mixture of different materials. However, compared to carbon fiber, fiberglass is more flexible and exhibits good long-term strength.
Kevlar: Kevlar-reinforced materials offer a combination of high strength, lightweight properties and heat resistance, making them ideal for demanding technical and industrial applications.
Continuous fiber: These materials consist of 100% fiber-reinforced components with continuous fibers. This makes them twice as strong as aluminum at half the weight. You can choose between carbon, fiberglass, and Kevlar reinforcements, all of which are high-performance plastics used in 3D printing.

Post-processing

Post-processing is crucial for the final quality and functionality of 3D printed parts. This process encompasses various techniques aimed at improving surface finish, optimizing mechanical properties, and refining the aesthetic appearance of the parts.

Sandblasting

Sandblasting involves propelling fine particles at high speed onto the component. This gives the component a homogeneous surface structure, making it smooth and visually appealing. Furthermore, the surface hardness of certain materials can be increased, improving the wear resistance and robustness of the components.

Grind

Die Bauteile können durch Schleifen nachgearbeitet werden. Dabei werden grobe Unebenheiten und überschüssiges Material entfernt, die Oberfläche geglättet und Kanten abgerundet. Zudem werden die Schichten des 3D Drucks weniger sichtbar. High-gloss polishing

In this process, components, primarily made of aluminum, are polished until the surface is smooth and mirror-like. High-gloss polishing can also be applied to other materials, resulting in a smooth and supple surface. Drum grinding

Drum grinding is an effective surface finishing process used to refine components to the highest quality standards. By using special abrasive media in rotating drums or containers, components are gently processed and given a uniform and high-quality surface structure.

Chemical smoothing

In this process, the printed parts are immersed in a special chemical solution that selectively dissolves and smooths the surface of the material. This reduces unevenness, layer lines, and visible printing marks, resulting in a flawless surface.

CNC

Manchmal kann der 3D Druck nicht die erforderliche Genauigkeit liefern, die benötigt wird. In solchen Fällen bietet das konventionelle Verfahren die Möglichkeit, Bauteile individuell nachzuarbeiten, Gewinde nachzuschneiden oder Fräsmaschinen oder Drehmaschinen einzusetzen, um spezifische Maße mit höheren Toleranzen zu erreichen. Dip dyeing

Manchmal gibt es Einschränkungen bei der Farbauswahl in bestimmten Verfahren, daher ist das Tauchfärben nach dem Druck eine einfache und kostengünstige Option. Beim Tauchfärben werden die gedruckten Bauteile in eine Farblösung eingetaucht, wodurch das Material die Farbe aufnimmt. Dieser Prozess führt zu einer gleichmäßigen und dauerhaften Färbung der Bauteile.

Coating

Durch gezielte Beschichtungen lassen sich spezifische Eigenschaften von Oberflächen optimieren, wie etwa verbessertes Aussehen, erhöhte Härte, reduzierte Haftung oder gesteigerte chemische Beständigkeit. Diese Verfahren ermöglichen es, Beschichtungen an die spezifischen Anforderungen jeder Anwendung anzupassen und gewünschte Eigenschaften gezielt zu verbessern.

Support material

Bei Bauteilen kann es vorkommen, dass Stützmaterialien erforderlich sind, die nach dem Druck entfernt werden müssen. Dies erfolgt in der Regel durch Schleifen oder Abschneiden der Kontaktflächen. Alternativ besteht die Möglichkeit, die Stützmaterialien beizubehalten, was zu einer Kostenreduktion führt und somit für den Kunden eine finanzielle Ersparnis darstellt.

Production time

Regardless of the urgency of your project, we offer various production times. Please note that different 3D printing processes and materials require different timeframes. Below you will find theoretical time estimates for guidance. Please be aware that costs may increase with greater urgency.

Selection options from the production time

Economy 15-22 working days: This option is suitable for projects that are not urgent and where cost savings are desired. However, this will extend the production time.

Standard 6-11 working days: Here, the component is processed in the regular production sequence, according to incoming orders. This option offers a balanced approach between production time and costs.

Express 3-4 working days: With this option, your order is prioritized to ensure faster production. This method is suitable for projects requiring rapid completion.

Same-day delivery: This option is ideal if the component is urgently needed, for example, in the event of a machine breakdown. We manufacture the part immediately after receiving the order.

Shipment

We handle shipping for all types of components, regardless of size. We determine the most suitable shipping option, whether by freight carrier or parcel service. Prices typically vary depending on size and weight. Our shipping services extend not only throughout Germany but also worldwide.

Standard 2-3 days: Packages are shipped via DHL or UPS using the usual method.

Express 1 Day: With this option, the package is usually delivered by the end of the next working day.

Same-day taxi service: This option allows the component to be picked up and delivered directly to you on the same day. Costs vary depending on the distance.

Freight forwarding: For particularly large or bulky goods that cannot be delivered by normal shipping services, freight forwarding is a good option. The price depends on the size of the component.
